Fiddleheads + Tropical Storm Irene = Safe To Eat?

One of my friends recently told me she was scared to harvest fiddleheads from her spot this year because it was still silty from Irene. Good thought. I went home and immediately starting looking up information for foraging after a flood. Nada. So let’s think about this. Many fiddleheads grow on river banks. Many riverbanks were damaged and contaminated due to the flood. I can still see remnants of silt on the riverbanks around my town. Hummmmmm….. Good thing my fiddleheads grow in the woods on a mountain top. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this one? I would really love to hear them.
